This weekend at New York Comic Con, DC Comics announced that Scott Snyder and Jim Lee will be working together on a new Superman ongoing series in 2013.

The series will reportedly take place in the present day New 52 continuity, and feature the Man of Steel himself, as well as major characters like Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Jimmy Olsen, Perry White and Lana Lang.

Snyder told Newsarama that his work on the series will be “a full, huge exploration, both bombastic and gigantic, where you get to use the most earth-shattering sequences possible, but also the most intimate, that explore the character in a deep way.”

Snyder said he hopes to explore the kind of restraint Superman needs to show to resist his urges to change the world in a radical, yet unacceptable way.

Like Snyder’s work on Batman, the each issue of the series will feature a backup story that ties into the main one. The artist for these backup stories has yet to be announced.

Snyder’s work on this new series will apparently not effect his work on Batman or Vertigo’s American Vampire.
