Iconix Brands Group, Inc. announced this week that an animated Peanuts feature film is in the works, and targeted for a November 25, 2015 release.
Iconix, the company that co-owns the brand along with Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates, noted that the movie will coincide with the 65th anniversary of the original Peanuts comic strip, and the 50th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas.
The film will be produced by Craig and Brian Schulz, Charles Schulz’s son and grandson, as well as Cornelius Uliano. In addition, 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios will distribute, produce and animate the film. Steve Martino will direct. Martino’s previous c0-directing credits include Horton Hears A Who and Ice Age: Continental Drift.
“We have been working on this project for years,” Craig Schulz, who serves as president of Charles Schulz Creative Associates, said via press release. “We finally felt the time was right and the technology is where we need it to be to create this film. I am thrilled we will be partnering with Blue Sky/Fox to create a Peanuts movie that is true to the strip and will continue the legacy in honor of my father.”
