Andrew Garfield, who starred as Peter Parker in this year’s The Amazing Spider-Man, will indeed be returning for a sequel, set for release on May 2, 2014.

Marc Webb, the film’s director, was also announced for a return by Columbia Pictures President Doug Belgrad, and Hannah Minghella, the studio’s president of production.

“We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker,” Belgrad said. “We can’t wait to share what we have in store for Peter and Spider-Man with audiences worldwide.”

Emma Stone, who played Gwen Stacy in the film, is expected to return, but it has not yet been confirmed.

The Amazing Spider-Man grossed more than $751 million at the box office this year.
