This weekend, the world got its first look at the new and (hopefully) improved Robocop, courtesy of ComingSoon.net.

Filming began in Toronto on September 15, and evidently actor Joel Kinnaman will be donning an entirely black suit for the movie, in contrast to the suit Peter Weller wore in the original films, which was silver and black.

Much like its predecessor, Robocop is the story of a police officer and family man named Alex Murphy. When Murphy is critically injured in the line of duty, his life is saved using robotic technology. He eventually returns to the streets as Robocop.

Scheduled for release on August 9, 2012, the film will also star Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton and Samuel L. Jackson.
