Whitney Houston, one of the most decorated female recording artists of all time, and widely considered to be among the most gifted, has died at the age of 48.

Houston’s publicist broke the news of the singer’s tragic death. The cause is currently unknown.

Whitney Houston is the only artist in history to release seven consecutive #1 hits on the Billboard Top 100, with “Saving All My Love for You,” “How Will I Know,” “Greatest Love of All,” “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me),” “Didn’t We Almost Have It All,” “So Emotional,” and “Where Do Broken Hearts Go.” She also broke into the movie industry, with The Bodyguard, Waiting To Exhale and The Preacher’s Wife.

Sadly, in recent years Houston’s career has been somewhat tainted by her personal battles, both with substance abuse, and her relationship with ex-husband Bobby Brown.

“I am absolutely heartbroken at the news of Whitney’s passing,” music producer Quincy Jones said via written statement. “I always regretted not having had the opportunity to work with her. She was a true original and a talent beyond compare. I will miss her terribly.”
